Day 3
The first place I went to explore Rebel Diaz was their twitter. I felt like what they tweet or retweet could shed light on what issues they support, what hip hop artists like their music or message, etc. One of the biggest threads on their page was people who used their music when protesting outside of the Venezuelan Embassy. If Rebel Diaz wasn't mentioned in a tweet about Venezuela, they made their own post or retweet. The hyper-politicization of their Twitter makes sense due to the genre of music they create.
Just like their Twitter, their music videos leave little questions behind about what the duo believes. The coupling of video reels and the music itself feels like a marriage in that together they create a full picture of what the artist is trying to say. In Diaz's song "You Mad!" reels from Brent Kavenaugh's hearing, protests and Trump rally's play over words dealing with frustrations over sexism and a call to action for men to "unlearn so the system can burn."
I'm interested in learning more about how they decide what to sing about and their creative process. They have such a quick turnaround (about two weeks) so I'm curious about how they piece everything together so fast. I also want to ask him about how having children has changed his artistry as well as why he hasn't discussed some of the issues he's had with immigration due to his status as a permanent resident. I'm also curious about if that status has any affect on his views on voting and what he suggests to do about the issues we have today.
